Slideshow not running

I am not able to get the slideshow to function in NextGen Gallery. I have tried just about everything including a different copy of imagerotator.swf.
The Theme is Easel unmodified. i have contact the theme authorand he things it is an NGG issue.
Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer not to switch to another Gallery.
