Slideshow pauses or stalls with a lot of text slides

I have 80 text slides in a slideshow on my home page. The slideshow frequently pauses or stalls too long on a slide (no particular slide) before resuming operation. Is it possible that this is due to having too many slides? Was Slideshow designed to hold 80 text slides?
