    Hi All,

I have a theme that I am altering (colours and part of the layout).

Now, I am trying to get the homepage to look similar to giveawayoftheday.com (but the opposite way round)

Where by the main entry is the full length of the theme, but the previous entries are half size or smaller.

    How can I adjust this?

    Thanks,
    Amnesia

You will need to learn a bit of WP theme functions and CSS..
I do not thing anyone can answer your question without seeing your site, your theme, or even EXACTLY what you want to do ..

Isn’t Amnesia just talking about excerpts?

well.. By my understanding, he is talking about

    full length of the theme

    and not

    full length of the POST…

but maybe I really am wrong ..

Well, if you go to https://www.problogger.net you will see the “featured post” is longer (in width) then the “recent posts”.

On my blog, the featured post will be the most recent one, whilst “recent posts” I want to be archived ones.

Problogger is posting the “Featured” post in the main section and the “Recent” posts in a sidebar which explains the different widths.

The “Recent” posts are just the title’s and a small excerpt.

So how would I go about creating this? (i.e: the width of the sidebar) where do I set that?

Any idea how I would go about implementing something like this?

well.. like I said in my first reply,no one can tell you exactly how to do that without knowing anything about your website.
you should at least show us your template..
what you want requires support from your template (2 or 3 column template) and then in the CSS assign different width to thos columns – one fixed and one fluid or bopth fluid with adjustable %% )

Thank you, well if you go to https://www.thewebevolved.com/enter – I am using the Choc theme (as a basis) and will be totally customising this.

Problogger looks to be using a 3-column theme. The Theme you’ve given us a link to is a 2-column theme.

In order to implement something similar to Problogger you will have to do some extensive writing to your CSS (Stylesheet). You will have to add another sidebar, which isn’t too difficult, and then adjust the widths of your columns accordingly.

Managing the number of columns and the widths of columns and how the columns are displayed is a major distinction/difference between themes.

If you can master this then you can manipulate just about anything.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the help.

Any ideas where I can start? I have developed/modified a few Joomla themes, so I’m guessing it’s not too difficult… or is it?

Would it be better to get a 3 column theme and totally adjust it myself?
