Slimstat suddenly way under reporting visitors

I noticed the same thing… as of 1/10 for me. Not that I get a lot of hits, but the stats definitely dropped in SlimStat. Google Analytics shows a normal expected trend.

could you both post your site’s URLs so that we can run some tests from here? Also, could you please post some more info about your environments? Like PHP version, using CDN option in SlimStat or not, tracking mode (javascript or server), use of caching plugin (w3 total cache, hypercache, etc), version of WordPress, etc.

That would help ?? My crystal ball is being repaired after I dropped it this past Christmas…

I’m traveling to a meeting right now and can’t give you answers to your other questions, other than that I’m using the current version of WP.

@rjonwine, I see you’re using W3 Total Cache. Could you please make sure you clear its cache? Some pages might be using/embedding an older version of our tracking code.

Also, I noticed a javascript error (related to stumbleupon, as far as I can tell), that might be affecting our tracker:

Failed to execute ‘postMessage’ on ‘DOMWindow’: The target origin provided (‘https://www.stumbleupon.com’) does not match the recipient window’s origin

Have you changed any settings or installed any new plugins on or around Jan 14? Were you using server-side tracking in SlimStat and switched to Javascript Tracking?

Aside from that, all my test visits were properly tracked, according to my tests. So everything seems to be working fine.

Slimstat seems to have recovered today and is reporting a more normal traffic on my site as of today than it has for the past week. I did empty cache yesterday. I did not install any new plugins on or around January 14. I installed a couple of new stats plugins on 1/19, in an effort to find something that might replace Slimstat, as it was so clearly off from other stat reporting (e.g., Google Analytics).

Oh, and I don’t have StumbleUpon installed and don’t know why that would have shown up.

Well, I’m glad the issue seems to be resolved. I’m pretty sure it was because of W3TC’s cache. Keep monitoring the stats ans see how it goes…

So can you say anything about how W3TC’s cache would have suddenly made the SlimStat figures on my visitors drop so low for a week? I have virtually never used the W3TC plug in, and certainly not in the last several months. I only emptied the cache day before yesterday on the off chance that might help.

Are you saying one needs to empty the cache periodically for SlimStat to be accurate? If so, how often?

PS: I’m trying out a few other stats plug-ins now, so I’ll be doing a comparison of SlimStat with other highly rated plug-ins.

Only if your permalink structure changes, or when mentioned in our changelog. Otherwise, there should be no need to clear your cache. Our dev environment has W3TC installed, and we haven’t cleared our cache in months.
