• Resolved vahost

I’ve had a problem for the past couple of months with connecting to the home page of my site. At times, it takes 60-90 seconds. I’ve been trying all kinds of things to resolve the issue.

I did yet another web search today and found a post in this support section regarding WP SpamShield and jscripts.php. While I am not having that issue, it made me decide to test by turning WP SpamShield off and on to see how it might affect the connection time. To remove it from the equation, I also disabled W3 Total Cache. I checked connection times using Fiddler4.

First, I disabled and then uninstalled W3 Total Cache completely.

Second, I timed the initial connection to my home page. Connection time was over 44 seconds before the next file was requested.

Third, I turned WP SpamShield off and tried the home page again. This time, the connection speed was under 2 seconds.

Fourth, I turned WP SpamShield back on and tried again. This time, the connection speed was just over 80 seconds.

Fifth, I turned WP SpamShield off and tried again. This time, the connection speed was again under 2 seconds.

I don’t want to publish the URL of my site. However, if there is a more private way for me to contact you, I’d be happy to share my Fiddler4 results with you, so you can see for yourself.

    Hi vahost,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having that issue. The plugin has been built for speed, and we’ve been benchmarking it from day one, so if you’re experiencing that kind of slow-down, then there is some kind of issue on your server or some kind of conflict. Either something isn’t functioning properly, or there is a configuration issue that needs to be fixed.

I purposely made the entire plugin lightweight on server resources so if that were slowing anything down, your site won’t be able to handle very much. WP-SpamShield is recommended by several web hosts for helping to protect and speed up sites so I’m confident it’s not the source of the issue there. It’s more likely that it’s bringing an issue to light that was already there, that will become an issue again sooner later even if you weren’t using this plugin. So, we definitely need to help you get to the real root of the problem.

Absolutely…I understand about not wanting to publish your site info publicly for a number of reasons. If you submit a support request on the WP-SpamShield Support page, I will email you back and look into things. (I don’t give out my email address on forums but that will give you a direct line to me.) We’ll help you get the issue diagnosed and fixed.

I submitted using your form, but the form didn’t indicate to me that the send was successful. It simply emptied the form of everything I entered. So please check to see if it worked. If it didn’t, you’ll need to fix the form before I can send you the info you requested.

You’re very welcome! I sent you an email yesterday. (Let me know if you didn’t get it.) When you get a chance, email me back so I can help you fix those issues.

Just sent you an email. I couldn’t make the issue recur, but I sent you the debug files anyway. Meanwhile, I’ll leave the current configuration alone for a bit to see if the problem returns.
