slow email for password reset

For a long time now, almost a year, we have been fighting the speed of which WP emails our members “lost password” emails. How can we speed this up??

our users are quitting our site, because they get fed up….

They click “reset / forgot password” but WP doesn’t email a new one for over 10minutes… During which time, users click it again, and again —causing the 1st email they FINALLY receive to be void.

Is there a timer? Is there a setting we can alter? Is it even related to WP??? Please help!!
