Slow Load Speed

  • My host (fatcow) recommended that I upgrade to VPS to decrease my load speed. I did, and I am now loading at 8-9 seconds, which is better but I expected faster speeds from VPS. I use theme twenty eleven, have a cache and a smushit plugin, and have removed the plugins I thought I could. My plugin load time is about 1 second, so that doesn’t seem to be the problem. I would like to get to under 5 seconds.

    Fatcow tells me my homepage is too big. Does making posts sticky slow down load time? Anyone know how I can reduce the size of my homepage?

    I am not convinced that I needed an upgrade, or if Fatcow simply wanted to sell me more expensive service. I thought the upgrade would make load speed a non issue.

    Any ideas what to try next?

  • If the only problem is home page, you can decrease number of posts in your home page and also you can show excerpt (summary of posts) in the home page instead of showing full of it to speed up your home page.
