Slow loading first visit in IE but not in FF or other browsers

  • I have searched the net till I’m blue in the face, so hopefully, someone could shed some light on this for me.

    When you visit for the first time with Internet Explorer, the blog takes FOREVER (30 – 60 seconds) to load, HOWEVER, if you leave the page and go back, its quick (Temp internet files/cache). This DOES NOT happen with other browsers like Firefox, Safari, etc… as the other browsers load fast anytime even first visit. ONLY IE IS SLOW ON FIRST VISIT! (versions 6&7 tested on XP and Vista)ALL IE is slow on FIRST visit. (Just wanted to make clear, because on all the searches I found, nothing is popping up for this issue.)

    I have tried all the following:
    1- Repair, Optimize database.
    2- Fresh installation via Fantasico in cPanel. Imported the posts/etc. via the import option in dashboard (exported all from old version first.)
    3- Removed theme and used default theme.
    4- Removed ALL plugins (just to eliminate chance of plugins causing the problem.)

    NONE of this has helped… What is it? There’s not that many posts at all, like 130 or so. Oh, even if I make the pages list like only 1 or so posts vs. 5 or 10, it still takes long in IE.

  • Any progress with this investigation? I’m having the same problem, but only on the first visit of the day. If I go to a different computer after experiencing the slow load on one computer, it’s fine. Which leads me to believe it is more to do with some sort of server side caching than client browser caching.

    Anyone know anything about this?

    The blog loaded extremely quickly for me, and I’m on IE6 and Windows XP with 1024×768 resolution and have never visited the blog. I can test on IE7 once I get home tonight.

    It loads fine in IE7 on XP Pro. IE does complain about errors when I try to leave, or close, the page though. Are you running scripts on exit?

    Exactly the same issue here, loads quickly with IE6, Firefox, safari, opera, but with IE7 it hangs for a good 10 seconds before it loads quickly.

    And once i’ve visisted it one time it loads quickly again.

    How do you fix this?
