I’m working with a library that is having trouble with the bookshelves set up on their site. When they try to add new books and click Update, it takes a very long time (3+ minutes) for the bookshelf to complete the updating process. While the bookshelf is updating, trying to access website pages also stops working — both are just churning and then both processes seem to complete at the same time. The bookshelves all use the “Input items as a list” format. The bookshelf that they update the most has 200 books on it at the moment. I am guessing this might have something to do with the slow updating, but am looking for confirmation. It certainly seems like bookshelves with smaller numbers of books on them update much faster. If this could be the problem, do you have a recommended number of books to have on a single bookshelf? And if you think it might be something else, do you have ideas about what I could try to help pinpoint the problem?

    Many thanks!

200 is quite a large number of books for a Bookshelf that displays 4 at a time… Even so, I would expect it to process faster. You can check for PHP errors and let me know of any issues related to the plugin, but I suspect a slow/shared web server may be the problem.

No PHP errors related to Library Bookshelves, so I also think it must be the hosting environment. Thanks for your response.
