Slows Down to a Crawl

Uploading images using the gallery dialog starts fine – nice and speedy, consistent with my connection speed. By about the eighth gallery I experience a serious slowdown. On a couple of occasions, it just stopped, usually near the end of the file list. At one point, a 35-image gallery hung for two hours before I told it to stop, then tried twice again, finally succeeding on the third try. I am using subdirectories for each gallery, but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference. All my images are JPEG compressed in Photoshop so they are each less than 1MB each. Am I missing a setting?
