• Jetpack always slows down websites and its use seems quite unnecessary to me. I hate it and try to avoid using it as much as possible, but unfortunately that was not possible with my poster site due to Woocommerce tax.

I have had Jetpack installed on all other sites, but always removed it again because of the slowing effect. After removal, the sites functioned as they should again. The unnecessary link with wordpress.com also always causes irritation, takes unnecessary time to have to create accounts, while I do not work on wordpress.com but on .org, and that is not without reason.

Due to the mandatory link between Woocommerce tax and Jetpack, users are forced to use Jetpack, or perhaps better said, held hostage, because we cannot go anywhere. And from what I read, many forced users of Jetpack would like to get rid of it.

As soon as an alternative comes, Jetpack will also be removed from this site.

    Hi @marcozoutman

Thank you for sharing your experience with Jetpack. We take all feedback seriously and I’d like to address your concerns while also clarifying some points that might help you and others get the most out of Jetpack.

Regarding site performance: Jetpack is designed to be modular, meaning you can enable only the features you need. Each module is optimized to minimize impact on site speed. In fact, features like our CDN and optimized image delivery can significantly improve site performance when properly configured. If you’re experiencing slowdowns, we’d be happy to help analyze which specific modules might be causing this on your site.

About the WordPress.com connection: This integration serves an important technical purpose. It provides secure authentication, reliable cloud infrastructure for features like backups and stats, and enables real-time updates. Think of it like using your Google account to log into other services – it’s more secure than creating separate credentials everywhere. You maintain full control of your self-hosted WordPress site while leveraging WordPress.com’s robust infrastructure.

Regarding WooCommerce Tax: The integration with Jetpack enables real-time tax calculations through our automated tax service. This service requires secure API connections through WordPress.com to ensure accurate, up-to-date tax rates across multiple jurisdictions. We understand this may feel restrictive, but it’s designed to help store owners maintain tax compliance while reducing manual work.

We’d love to help optimize your Jetpack configuration to better serve your needs. You can selectively enable only the features you want, and we can work together to ensure they’re properly configured for optimal performance. Please feel free to reach out for personalized assistance.
