• Not sure if this is a 1and1 hosting issue or a WP issue but as of late I have been experiencing severe load times on my site. Sometimes it averages 20 seconds to load and this weekend it was taking up to 60 seconds to load if at all. However right now it seems fine with 7-9 second load times. The index page is usually around 500k-700k. When I run a load test at https://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ I notice one interesting bit of info. Plug in https://www.scannerbytes.com and look at the first line of the results. It shows the first item “www.scannerbytes.com” has a much larger green and blue bar (Connect time, first byte loaded and last byte loaded) than all the other objects. Not sure how to decypher that, maybe a host issue?

Here are my plugins (That I have tested with them disabled with not much change in load times):
    Add to Any
    Adsense Manager
    Akismet
    All in One SEO Pack
    Amazon Feed
    Audio Player
    Chat Catcher
    Enhanced WP-COntactForm
    Featured Content Gallery
    Feedburner Feedsmith
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Image Upload HTTP Error Fix
    KB Advanced RSS Widget
    KB Robots.txt
    Maintenance Mode
    MaxBlogPress Favicon
    Smart YouTube
    StatPress Reloaded
    Twitme
    Wordpress.com stats
    Wordpress Mobile Edition
    Wordpress Online Automated Backup

    All are up to date.
Do Inactive plugins make a difference?

I have contacted 1and1 and their responses have ranged from “your site loads instantly on our end” to them moving my account to a more stable application pool.

Could use some help to get this figured out as I would assume it frustrates my visitors.

    Thanks,
    Tom

  • One of my WP clients uses 1&1 and I have to say that their server performance is almost the worst I’ve seen. And their support is next to useless.

Might be a good time for a move. What are some other good hosts? GoDaddy comes to mind but I have a feeling they might have just as many complaints as well since lots of marketing bucks doesn’t necessarily equate to a great host.

GoDaddy has the worst user interface in the history of mankind. I highly recommend NOT using them. And you’re right – anyone that can afford 3 million for a SB ad is over-charging you. I moved from them to Dreamhost and now I’m happy as a clam. Great customer service as well.
