    Hello,

I implemented SmartCrawl on my website and it works well in providing an assessment and recommendations, however it doesn’t seem to be picking up my META descriptions.

Perhaps it’s a compatibility issue with “Easy WP Meta Description”, another Plugin I had previously installed…

    Please advise / Thanks,

    Mark

    Hello @freem33 ,

I’m super sorry for the delay on our side, it looks like your post slipped through the cracks ??

I checked your site and I can see that meta description is added, however, it is added twice.
One description comes from the SmartCrawl plugin and the second one from Easy WP Meta Description. It looks like this plugin is still working on your site.
I would suggest disabling it and let then SmartCrawl handle the description.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Hi Kasia,

I’ve spent 10s of hours customizing my Meta Descriptions via the Easy WP plugin.

I didn’t realize that SmartCrawl was going to generate it’s own meta description – Now my SEO effectiveness has decreased due to multiple/conflicting descriptions!

Can you make SmartCrawl ‘recognize’ the custom descriptions from Easy WP, or is there a way to stop SmartCrawl from generating an unwanted version of the meta descriptions?

    Thanks,

    Hello there @freem33,
    hope you’re doing well!

You can disable the whole “Titles & Meta” module of SmartCrawl from SmartCrawl -> Settings -> General Settings as shown below:

    Thank you,

    Dimitris,

Thanks – I made the change, however it appears (from Bing Webmaster tools) that I still have ‘multiple descriptions’ on >50 pages…

Using Google search, I see that my correct/updated META descriptions are not always being displayed. Not sure if this is due to SmartCrawl, Hummingbird, Easy WP or something else.

    Testing continues…

    Hello there @freem33

As long as you disable the SmartCrawl Titles & Meta then they should not be coming from there.
Also, HummingBird doesn’t have to do anything with SEO metadata.
So these should be coming from Easy WP and the active theme, as most of the themes nowadays are providing some SEO functionalities.
In any case, a full conflict test is what can reveal the source of this to you: https://premium.wpmudev.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Support-Process-Support-Process.gif
