Smart quotes appearing in code view

  • I’ve searched for this issue, but the latest resolution I found was published 4 years ago: hence, I will pose this question again.

    When I type code into the “Edit the Page” section, all my quotes turn to smart quotes and all my double hyphens turn to m-dashes. This started happening to me about a year and a half ago, and I have not been able to find a resolution. I’ve tried several things.

    Does anyone have updated advice for turning off this formatting?

    ” means an inch and is not a quote mark.

    Because I am coding in HTML within the text area. Smart quotes do not work inside code. They blow the page apart. This is very problematic since every HTML attribute requires quotes.

    Sorry. I just didn’t get what problem you were having because I have never had it.

    Can you paste the code here or if too long use pastebin.com and post the url.

    Also have you tried:
    -deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
    -switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    You still do not have a grasp of the issue. I don’t mean to sound rude, but this is a veery frustrating problem. I cannot send you the code because the code is fine and this happens no matter what page i put it in, every time.

    “Smart quotes are performed by the wptexturize function.” It further gives you a function to add. But the post is four years old and I am afraid the info might be outdated. The post also mentions a couple plug-ins you can use to disable the auto conversion to smart quotes, but one has not been updated for 7 years, and the other one for 10 years.

    This is a big problem for any programmer using WordPress. Someone out there must have the answer.

    That is simply not correct. Code entered in the text screen is no problem unless you have a screwed up WP install to include plugins and or theme.

    If you refuse to post the code there is nothing or no one that can help you. There is no reason not to post the code you are having a problem with unless you do not want assistance.

    I’m sorry. I simply meant that there is no specific code where that this happens. I happens on two different sites both hosted on Network Solutions. I will gladly show you a screen shot so you can see what happens. Please see link from BergenCountyDanceClasses.com website:

    The screen shot shows the smart quotes in two places both a left side quote.
    I entered the same in the text block and got <table class="ctable1">

    Very puzzling.
