Smells of (premium) abandonware

The project gives every impression of abandonware. Support tickets are not being responded to. We had a renewal, and our licenses expired anyway. Nobody from Billing ever replied. We filed for a chargeback, nobody bothered to reply to that one either.
Did something happen to the team? Where are the people behind this project, what kind of leadership and QA is applied to the code? I am now afraid to update to version 6 because I suspect the original developers might not even be involved in it. How is an even update released, if all we get from the company is radio silence?
Who is running the entire show now – open source contributors? Who does master merges, QA, how can we be sure the code is even safe anymore?
