    Excellent thanks PODZ, maybe a button to insert smilies could be introduced into the next version. ??

    Have you looked at wp_grins ?
    You can put smilies into the admin area, and / or the comments area.
    Check my page – I have them in the comments section.

    There is a wonderful plugin WP-Grins by Alex King for just that, and it works in WP1.5 too ?? With it you can display the clickable smileys for comment writers too!
    (whoops…. I was too slow, but I included the link! :P)
