  • I use Amazon SES. I’m still getting SMTP connect() failed on version 1.1.8.

Yes, I’ve tried again with 1.1.8. Still getting the same SMTP connect() failed error.

The site is gateslosangeles.com. I have gravity forms set up in it that are configured to notify us through [email protected]. Both gateslosangeles.com and mulhollandsecurity.com are hosted at Godaddy, but the mx records for mulhollandsecurity are configured correctly for google apps for business.

Mail being sent to [email protected] is being received and being sent well, outside of facebook.

We set up gravityforms to notify us at mulhollandsecurity.com addresses and it only worked pretty good. Often the notifications just would never arrive. Gravity forms said to use yours or another similar plugin.

I have tried all the combinations of 465/ssl and 587/tls and they always say the test email failed. Am i right in thinking that the username is any username amongst our active google apps accounts and the respective password?

    Thanks.

@charmedlife, your MX and SPF are correct for your domain.

If you test email is failing, then one or more of these scenarios is happening:

    1. Your host is blocking your access to the Gmail SMTP server. Since your host is GoDaddy, I’m 90% sure this is the case. GoDaddy usually leaves port 443 open, so you could use the Gmail API
    2. You are having a password-auth failure. Google may have decided to tighten the security on your account. See https://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.ca/2014/04/new-security-measures-will-affect-older.html

    Thanks, postman, for answering.

    A. Re: 1, being that I don’t know how to use the Gmail API, if I were to call Godaddy, would you imagine anyone understand what I was asking for, and then be able to change it?

    B. If the answer to above is “no”, is there a layman’s guide to using the Gmail API to resolve this?

    C. If your #2 is the issue, is there a means with dealing with this so that I could get my notifications anyway?

    D. I’ve brought this up to gravity forms before, and it is plain that this is one of the most annoying things that they deal with there, and often without success. Are you aware of a gravity forms alternative where the notification process has been successfully worked out?

I’m still getting the SMTP connect() failed on two different VPS servers when trying to use Mandril SMTP. I’m on version 1.1.8. Mail stopped working on both servers on March 27th.
