  • Hi,

Your host is probably blocking your outgoing SMTP ports. Can you get in touch with them? Otherwise, we recommend SendGrid, as we support their API. That means you can send, even if your ports are blocked.

    Hello,

    I have the same issue.

I’ve tried using my Amazon AWS login and pass, and I’ve tried using my Amazon IAM User login and pass.

I always get the same SMTP error.
(and it’s NOT an authentication error–so I belive the account logins are good)

I have also verified that my Amazon SES is in fact using the specified server.

And the email address and domain are verified in Amazon SES.

SMTP connection always fails when using MailPoet > Settings > Send with

I just talked with my host’s support, for my dedicated, physical server, and they are not blocking SMTP.

Here is the error message I get:

Error Sending Message SMTP works with MailPoet to [email protected] | SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host. |
Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to email-smtp.us-west-2.amazonaws.com:465 (Connection timed out) in /home/thiswebsite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wysija-newsletters/inc/phpmailer/class.smtp.php on line 123

I MUST get this MailPoet working, and sending via Amazon SES.

    Thank you for the support.

I am having the same issue. I use cloudflare though. I have checked everywhere and no one has the answer. This is so frustrating. How am I suppose to buy the premium version if I can even get the free one to work.

    UPDATE

I now have MailPoet WORKING with Amazon SES on our physical, managed, dedicated server!

    PORT: 465

    Using SSL!

And our server tech told edited the server firewall…

“Ok, so in the csf.conf I am leaving SMTP_BLOCK off or set to 0.”

    [root@host ~]# diff /etc/csf/csf.conf.lwbakajarrell /etc/csf/csf.conf
    142c142
    < SMTP_BLOCK = “1”

    > SMTP_BLOCK = “0”

I hope this helps some people!

We paid $ 499 for the unlimited Mailpoet license after MailChimp blocked us from sending to OUR OWN SUBSCRIBERS WHO OPTED IN–because the MailChimp language police robot reader gadget found words or phrases it didn’t like and thought might be offensive to some people. Well, MailChimpo, we email to people who know our language and expect it–that’s why we were SENDING IT TO OUR SUBSCRIBER LIST.
Goodbye MailChimp. And we were paying them at the top levels for several services.

    Chris
