Hi there, is it possible to set up a SMTP connection with no authentication (username and password)?

I have tried leaving the SMTP username and SMTP password fields blank but when I try sending a test email “SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.” message.

We have just pushed an update to the plugin that should address & fix the issue. Please try sending another test email running version 6.1.1 of the plugin.

Thank you. I have installed the update to 6.1.1 and have tried again with SMTP username and password fields empty, but I get the same error message again.

Can you elaborate on where the error message appears? Does your email sending service actually allow sending without authentification?

Yes, they recommended connecting without authentication. The error message appears able the ‘Send Test Email (Save First!)’ CTA in the Swift SMTP settings in WordPress.

Just to double-check. You are in the Swift SMTP tab when trying to send the test email, not the Welcome Email Editor tab, is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. I’m in the Swift SMTP settings.

Hi David, I’m still having issues with this. I’ve checked with my web hosting provider and they have confirmed that I should be able to connect without authentication. Have you done any test connections with authentication disabled?
