In our WooCommerce webshop some emails are randomly not being sent. The strange thing is that it goes well for 90% of the time but sometimes below error is randomly pulling up.
With this plugin we don’t get any more details then: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Is there any way to test what could cause this problem?

    Hi @heijtec2

    Thanks for reaching out.

Based on that error message I assume you are using the Other SMTP mailer.

Considering that this is an intermittent issue, it’s hard to nail down, but if you ever run into it again, please try sending a test email.

Then if you receive an error log, please, contact your web host support with the same full SMTP log after sending a test email, and they can look into the issue for you.

Unfortunately we can’t resolve the issue since it’s hosting/SMTP-related.

Also, these types of errors usually only come up with the Other SMTP mailer, as it’s not an API-based mailer. In cases where ongoing issues arise while using the Other SMTP mailer, we generally recommend switching to a transactional mailer option (it’s all mailers except the Other SMTP and Default (none) option).

We have documentation on setting up each of the available mailers here:?https://wpmailsmtp.com/docs/a-complete-guide-to-wp-mail-smtp-mailers/.

    Hi Drake,

Thanks for your quick and detailed reply!

You are right, we are using our own mail/smtp server. The strange thing about this that sometimes the error is showing up with all different mail addresses.

Is there any way to find any details or a log about the error? Because the only thing we see is: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.
    No error message or anything.

We will also look into using an external smtp server. Thanks for the info!

    Hi @heijtec2

You’re welcome, glad we could help.

The test email feature will only provide an error log if the error occurred during the sending process. You might be able to find some additional debug information in the debug events section.

You can also reach out to your website host to see if they are seeing any error logs on their end regarding your email sending.

Using an alternative may be the safest bet because that type of error is usually mailer/server-specific.

    Hi Dake,

By accident I have found that option myself. But this helps us a lot for finding the problem!
So thanks for your tip ??
