So I’ve been using this plugin for a couple years on many client sites.

At first we used the “Other SMTP” setting and entered in our credentials. Everything works fine.

But then eventually the password for the account just… gets removed and the whole thing stops working. There’s no notification, so I don’t even know about it until my client calls me in a fury saying that no emails have been going out for days.

This has happened to multiple, unrelated websites, in exactly the same way.

So we switched to using the Gmail connection, which we thought wouldn’t have that issue.

We were wrong! After less than a year, the connection needs to be re-established. Without warning, once again, it just breaks, and we are not alerted to issues until the client calls us in a panic.

So before I leave a 1-star review, I figured I’d reach out and ask directly… Am I missing something???

  • Hi @brianjohnsondesign,

I apologize for the trouble. Is there any chance, you’re securing your SMTP password by defining constants in wp-config.php or somewhere else following this tutorial? In this case, the Password in the SMTP password field will get emptied. If you’re not doing this, did you have any major changes such as WordPress update etc. in the meantime?

Unfortunately, Google revokes access on many conditions, normally on change in a password of your account, enabling two-factor authentication etc. without giving any prior notice to us.

    Thanks!

Hi @brianjohnsondesign – We haven’t heard from you in about a week, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this ticket resolved. If you still have questions, though, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
