I’m using Photonic for the first time to pull galleries from SmugMug. We’re using Divi theme. I love the integration feature with the LightGallery Thumbnail option. However, the page is pulling extremely slow. Nearly 30 seconds to load.

Ideally, we thought we would embed galleries from SmugMug into our blog posts and have a separate Gallery page to feed in all of our Galleries. Even the blog posts are slow.

Is there a setting or a feature that I’m missing that will speed up the page load time. 28 seconds seems like an eternity.

Here’s a sample blog post with an embedded album below the feature image. https://mk1.cherieirwin.com/2018/09/25/joes-40th-birthday/

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Well, you are trying to display a gallery with 378 full-sized images, where each image is 1600px on the longer edge. Even assuming very high compression rates, you are looking at downloading hundreds of MBs of data in one go on a browser front-end. No matter what you do your page will load slowly with the given parameters.

You might want to consider optimization with your calls, such as showing fewer images (using the count and more attributes of the shortcode), or using a different tile image size (under Photonic → Settings → SmugMug → SmugMug Settings → Tile image size).

Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned, I’m just getting started, and there are a lot of features, buttons, shortcodes, etc. I didn’t realize that there was a short code builder. I was using Divi’s builder which disables the Add Media button.

I will try some of those features of the shortcode to see if I can reduce page load time, as well as reducing the tile image size. Thank you.

Well, the tile image size will single-handedly reduce the load times even if you don’t use any of the other shortcode features. So you can give that a shot to begin with. Bear in mind that the tile image size just stipulates the maximum image size to be used for the tile display in your justified grid; you will still get the full-sized image when you click on an image to show the lightbox.

Is there a way to use the MORE function with a Folder. I tried it to do a folder with a reduced count and the MORE function. It reduced the count number but didn’t load the button.

No, there isn’t such a capability, because a folder can have multiple nested folders and albums – there is no way to easily build out a shortcode feature that will help you control the folders / albums displayed at each level of nesting etc.

Thank you for your quick reply and your plugin contribution. This is excellent. I just needed to understand it better so that I could configure it correctly. Honestly, I didn’t realize that you could nest folders within folders in Smugmug.

Again, thank you. This is wonderful.

I am marking this thread resolved, as it looks like your pages are a lot quicker at this time. Please let me know if you require further assistance.
