Hi @wildfire9859,
Smush doesn’t create new images, it only helps with optimizing the existing thumbnails images present on your website. By default, the image thumbnails are what gets optimized, ie for example if the original image uploaded is abc.png, the default behaviour of the WordPress would be to create and use thumbnails of the original images to display in the frontend ie:
abc-100X100.png
abc-300×300.png
abc-500×500.png
etc
It entirely depends upon your theme on how many thumbnail sizes are registered for your website. You can find more info about Post Thumbnails here:
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Post_Thumbnails
Smush by default will only optimize such thumbnails. This would be the same behaviour in the Pro version too, however, it also offers the feature to optimize the original image which in the above example would be abc.png.
I hope this clears your query. Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.
Kind Regards,
Nithin
