I am using the free version of Smush and have the most updated version.

I was using the plugin without issue, but have discovered today that my images are no longer being resized upon upload according to the settings I have specified. They ARE being Smushed but the original files are not being resized to the dimensions I have set (original upload dimensions are retained).

The plugin seems to recognize that the new images have not been successfully resized as they have a “resmush” link in the details of the media library.
Additionally, when I go to Bulk Smush it tells me that I have attachments that need Smushing. I click the Bulk Smush now button and I get a success message with new stats upping the count of the resized images. BUT, if I go back to the media library to check the image details – I can see they are not resized and have retained their original pixel dimensions. AND, when I click re-check images in the settings I have the same message as before: you have 3 attachments that need re-compressing!
I am in a never ending loop – even after I get the success message, every time I re-check images it resets.

I’ve tried several times with different newly uploaded images. I’ve tried the upload via my slider plugin and directly to the Media Library (thinking it was the slider causing the problems) to no avail.

    Any clue what’s going on?

    Hello @spark_1

    I hope you’re well today!

I’ve tested this on a fresh setup with the most recent version of the plugin but I couldn’t replicate the issue so I’d like to ask you additional questions. Can you tell me, please:

    1) WordPress and plugin versions that you are using are, respectively, 5.2.2 and 3.2.4, right? It’s a single or multisite install?

    2) Do you recall any changes whatsoever made to the site right before you noticed the issue? By “changes” I mean things like e.g. WordPress/themes/plugins updates, some new plugin(s) installed, some changes in configuration of the site or server and similar.

    3) Where are you hosting your site (what host/plan)?

    4) Is there any caching plugin running on site and is there any cache active on server?

    5) How big (both in terms of file size and image dimensions) were the images that you tested so far?

Let us know, please. We’ll then test it again taking these aspect into account.

    Best regards,
    Adam
