We have used Smush to compress all of our images in our image library but realized we have tons of images in the file system that are progromatically being pulled into pages that are not smushed because they are not in the library.

Can smush It compress those also? Is there something special we need to do or is this something not offered in the free version?

    Thanks,
    Marcia

  • Hello @mdeemer,

Are those image stored in some folder in same installation or hosted on some other server?

Currently WP Smush optimises images in Media Library only, we do plan to add option to optimise image in folders in near future, but if the images are hosted on a separate server then it won’t be possible to optimise them.

Thank you, I will look for that feature in the future then. Can I verify if the free version will optimize a .png file?

Or, would I need the paid version that simply converts it to an optimized .jpg?

    Thanks very much,
    Marcia

    Hello @mdeemer,

WP Smush performs a lossless optimisation by default for all the images.

PNG->JPG conversion is lossy and a part of pro version ( Offers 15 days trial ). You can get further details in here:
https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wp-smush-pro/ or you can contact us via: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact for any further details.

    Cheers, Umesh
