    Hi

I’m using Smushit to reduce filesizes that the clients upload which should help the website load faster etc. Obviously the purpose of the plugin which is great !

The only issue seems to be that my backups are huge, much larger than they should be. I’m assuming when Smushit reduces file sizes which are thunbnails and other images across the entire Woocommerce/Wordpress that it keeps the original larger file and the several variations of the compressed file.

As it appears to be doing this, my backups are huge. How can I remove these original files that have been uploaded, but then reduced by Smushit (or are those original images overwritten when Smushed ?) Sorry I am not entirely sure how it all works, but for one client their backups are 1.5GB which is twice the size as other clients that are similar WOocommerce websites with NO Smushit installed.

Or what is the best strategy here to use with the plugin to reduce my backup filesizes ?

    Thanks
    Kristin

    Hello @kristinubute,

hope you’re doing well today and thanks for reaching us!

Using the free version of Smush won’t optimize the full-size images, but only all thumbnail sizes. It also doesn’t provide any functionality to either compress the original full-size images or make a copy of them before doing so. All of the above are part of the premium version of Smush, which requires you to obtain a premium WPMUDEV membership from here: https://premium.wpmudev.org/

Hope that clarifies things better, let me know if you still have queries about that. ??

    Thank you,
    Dimitris
