    Hello! Is there a way to change the address of the sitemap generated by Smartcrawl?

    My site has a 301 redirect from */sitemap.xml –> */sitemap_index.xml due to a previous SEO plugin. I really want to use Smartcrawl’s sitemap, but I don’t have enough development knowledge to solve this myself.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi @chipperofwood,

    In general, the sitemap should have worked out of the box. I’m afraid there isn’t any redirect that could be added because the sitemap is generated dynamically.

    Could you please check the root directory via FTP or File Manager(if using cPanel) and check whether there is any file called sitemap_index.xml physically present inside the root directory?

    The root directory is where the WordPress core files resides ie /wp-content, /wp-includes, /wp-admin.

    If the above-mentioned file is present then please delete it and then go to Settings > Permalinks in your WordPress dashboard and make sure Permalinks settings is to to “Post name” and click the “Save Changes” button to check whether the sitemap works fine or not?

    Even if “Post name” is already selected please do make sure to click “Save changes” button which should help with refreshing the permalinks cache and in turn should help with making the sitemap to work.

    If there isn’t any such file ie sitemap_index.xml present then check whether clicking “Save Changes” button makes the sitemap work or not too.

    Please do let us know how that goes. Have a nice day ahead.

    Best Regards,
    Nithin

    Hi Nithin,

    It doesn’t look like there’s a sitemap_index.xml physically present in the root directory.

    I changed the default permalink settings to “Post name” and clicked save changes, but with no success. It’s still telling me that the sitemap is location at */sitemap.xml, even though it’s nowhere to be seen in the directory.

    Hi @chipperofwood

    I hope you are doing well.

    The sitemap is not on the root folder, the /sitemap is accessed by a rewrite, the real file is located on:

    wp-content/uploads/smartcrawl/sitemap

    Can you check if you don’t have any custom rewrite on your server or a plugin causing the wrong redirect?

    The correct sitemap should be this:
    https://neweden.news/index.php?wds_sitemap=1&wds_sitemap_type=index

    I can see you are using Nginx, can you contact your hosting support and try this rule?

    location ~ ([^/]*)sitemap(.*).x(m|s)l$ {
    rewrite ^/sitemap.xml$ /index.php?wds_sitemap=1&wds_sitemap_type=index last;
    rewrite ^/([^/]+?)-sitemap([0-9]+)?.xml$ /index.php?wds_sitemap=1&wds_sitemap_type=$1&wds_sitemap_page=$2 last;
    }

    Let us know the result you got.
    Best Regards

    Ah, yes I see the sitemap in the location you described.

    I got in touch with my hosting company. They tried the rule with no luck.

    I believe all that’s necessary to use the plugin is to get rid of the redirect from https://neweden.news/sitemap.xml –> https://neweden.news/sitemap-index.xml that was left in place by Yoast.

    Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Yes, that sounds a YOAST redirect,
