So far so good

Hi fakeologist,
So you’ve decreased plugin rate because there is not “edit comment” feature on front-end? Do you see, that this is a very specific request and it can be only done after very important features. We’re not robots and can’t add all those features every day. This feature is already in our to-do list but not on the top of that.
The request for adding a new feature can not be reason to decrease wpDiscuz rating. You should rate current available functions and features.
wpDiscuz is a young plugin and it can’t have all features requested by thousands of user. You have to wait for that without affecting plugin rating.
We’re doing our best to add all new features as fast as possible.Yes I lowered the rating. I didn’t know there were strict rules for lowering a rating. I’ll be happy to upgrade it once the edit feature is there. I’ll bump it up to 4 stars.
Hi fakeologist,
I’m sorry but we don’t add new features which has been requested by high rate Ultimatum. Your act looks like intimidation. The Plugin Rating System was not created for such kind of request. It’s for rating all plugins with current available functions and features. For example you can decrease the rate if some function on plugin doesn’t work good or if something crash your site (if our support don’t fix it in support forum)…
For the new features you should open a support topic and ask for that. We’ll add it in our to-do list and work on that with priority of idea.—
Thank you for your understanding
TomI find your way of interfering with ratings here quite rude.
Users are free to rate a plugin the way they want and if they are not happy with the way it works you may be just glad they leave a comment here so that you may find a way to improve it.This user didn’t put any ultimatum, he just said that he will increase his rating when there are improvements and I find this quite fair.
I did the same with my own rating. Your plugin doesn’t work on my installation and I rated it according to the results I got. It’s as simple as that.
We tried to find a solution at support section but it didn’t worked out. So that’s it and you have to face it. It’s not because a plugin is free that users need to praise it.
Thank you John,
May be…Please imagine, how many features can be added on a comment plugin. Those are thousands, and don’t you think why we don’t have thousands of 1* reviews?
Because people understand that current wpDiscuz version is not the final release and we’re not robots to put all those within two months. This plugin is very young, you should see this aspect and try to support us (with compliments and good rates) to do our best to keep updating and improving this plugin. This user didn’t put any ultimatum, he just said that he will increase his rating when there are improvements and I find this quite fair.
If this is a right way to review plugin, all people will rate 1* and ask for some feature and then say: “Don’t worry we’ll increase this rate, but for now common! Keep working! Move…..! Add this features asap! Otherwise you’ll get another 1* rate!”
Don’t you see, that this looks like an intimidation or an obvious ultimatum and this is not a correct way to ask for a new feature?
And don’t you see that this is not a good way to be thankful to people who are developing a free plugin for you?I think there should be two gold rules for plugin reviews:
1) If there is not some feature you’d like to have on this plugin do not decrease plugin rate. Understand the current version is not the final release of this plugin, it’s in active development, and this feature can be added in near future. Kindly ask in support forum for this feature and wait for it, if you don’t have time to wait try to find another similar plugin.
2) If you find some bug or something don’t work on your WordPress please do not decrease this plugin rate, try to ask for help in plugin’s support forum and if you don’t get any response or help then rate it as you want.Using the review system as a way to get support or get things added into plugins/ themes is going to annoy the authors. If you are requesting a feature then I strongly suggest you do it in a constructive manner, or your request may simply be ignored.
Plugin does what it says it does – but plugin doesn’t do what it doesn’t say it does… This is not a fair review.
I’m not sure I well understand your point as moderator here.
I don’t know the author of initial message, nor how many stars he initially rated this plugin but, for me, his position was quite clear: he found the plugin interesting but incomplete and, from his point of view, one or some basic features were missing in order to rate it better.
His message was quite clear: “I like it, but users request an edit feature.”
I came across his rating and, at this stage, I also fully agree with him: as long as this and others basic features for this sort of plugin are missing it doesn’t deserve a better rating. Full stop.
After that, the author of the plugin replies “The request for adding a new feature can not be reason to decrease wpDiscuz rating.”
I’m sorry…? What does this mean? Where does this sort of logic come from and how a moderator in this forum can argue here that this is not a way for lowering star rating? If that is not a reason so what reason could allow lowering a rating? And why this sentence was not “constructive”?
Further, the second comment of the OP simply states that he will “be happy to upgrade it once the edit feature is there. I’ll bump it up to 4 stars.”
I really don’t see what is not fair in this review as he didn’t request anything. He was simply saying: this given feature is essential in this kind of plugin and as long as it is missing it doesn’t deserve more than x stars. What’s wrong here? I’m I missing something?
@john, The author is quite happy to accept feature and support requests in the appropriate place on the plugin’s support section. Don’t do it in the reviews forum, it can be easily seen a type of intimidation.
Please accept the author’s viewpoint on this, and that the Reviews section of www.ads-software.com is not for requesting support/ features.
Please note that this review was 3*, and after my first comment it becomes 4*
First please don’t muddle up “base” and “essential” features. All plugins can be released with a few of missing base features, but not with missing essential features. This plugin is designed to improve wordpress native comment system, and as you know the wordpress native comment system doesn’t have “edit” option on front-end for subscribers too. It only has such an option for admins and moderators. So this feature is not essential. wpDiscuz also has a feature to allow admins and moderators edit comments.
Also, I’d say this plugin has all essential and dozens of new base features and it’ll be improved with another dozens of base features in near future. And this process is continues. So we’ve written on this plugin description page the list of features it has by now. You should rate for current structure of plugin.
If those features are not enough for you it doesn’t mean that this plugin is bad. But it means that this plugin is not the one you’re seeking for. There are lots of friendly ways to ask for a new features. And I think you know those, but not decreasing plugin rate. And there are hundreds of basic features which can be added in this plugin so that doesn’t mean this plugin should have hundreds of 1* reviews.
Thousands of people use wpDiscuz and are happy with this plugin and think that current set of all features are more than enough for a modern and interactive comment system. And they see the very active development of this plugin and understand that it’s growing every day. We’ve updated this plugin 20 times within last 2.5 month and added dozens of new features. I think this kind of development shows that you’ll get new features as soon as possible.
@andrew: I agree with your statement but I really can’t see anywhere in this user’s comments here ANY request for support or features.
This is purely your, and the plugin’s author, interpretation.
But I’m not the OP in this thread and I prefer let him clarify his position.
Hi fakeologist,
We just added comment edit in wpDiscuz 2.1.0 version. Please update your installation and change the rate as you’ve promised.I will try it. I dare say you’re the most aggressive plug in author I’ve encountered!
I’ll let my users put it to the test (since they do most of the commenting).
Thank you fakeologist,
I’d not say so.
This is just a deep explanation of whole situation, nothing personal. We trying to show, how it’s painfully for plugin developers to get bad rate for something like your comment “but users request an edit feature”. You should try to understand us too. We do very hard and serious work and expect rating for real things. We’ll keep doing our best to make this plugin better and better regardless of all reviews.
Thank you for you understanding and for using our plugin
Hope you enjoy it…Ok I understand. I appreciate all the (free) work you guys do to make wordpress plugins. I agree the rating system can be distorted an not clear to the average person. If they read the reviews they’ll get a better understanding of the ratings – although I realize most people don’t read.
So, in summary, good work. I wish all the authors were as responsive as you.
So, the “edit feature” was not so crucial after all?
