• Hello all!

=) I hope you’re well! I need some help, please! I volunteered to help a non-profit organization modify WordPress to be a “groupware” of sorts for their members. I have found out now how much they need added on and I’m not sure about all of the things being possible. Here is the e-mail I received:

Here’s a summary of what we will include in the CORNER Intranet:
    —-
    a. Log-in page: username and password
    b. Next screen: Intranet itself, with links to the following areas:
–Board Members (if this is not visible to the general user it’s better) containing a space for uploading SPACE evaluation (will explain later), event calendar (for meeting postings, vacation time schedule, etc), fundraising calendar, communication calendar

    — General member area containing an event calendar, photos and files upload, projects-in-progress (for specific teams to upload and download files), an area where members can download: SPACE proposal application (Word file), handbook (TK), charter, annual report (TK), by-laws, articles of incorporation, NDA, brochures (pdf) and other promotional materials

    — a controlled access area containing letterhead, invoice, payment request forms, receipts, Powerpoint presentation, high-rez files for brochures (pdf) and other promotional materials

    c. Make sure we can track the number of visits although I don’t want this visible on the site itself?

    d. When we announce the existence of CORNER (via newsletter), I would like a 1-week preview period when anyone can visit the site without using a password (or a generic username and password that will expire after this period) so they can get an idea of what it is. During this time, only those who register username and password can upload files or post anything. So, the difference between this beta site and the real thing is that for 1 week people are able to go beyond the log in page without a password and username.

    e. After one week from announcement, any url to CORNER will lead to the log-in page.

    f. CORNER log in will be part of the top nav.

    g. Word Press for CORNER has already been installed on our server. I will give you password, etc. once you let me know if you can do the project, the price, and VERY IMPORTANT: how soon you can have it done. This can be a work-in-progress. Eg, Board members area is the last in priority, as long as we have the main General member area working we can announce it while development is still going on.

Basically, I’ve found plug-ins that manage users and permissions but the real test on those will be if they can still block out all of the potentially needed plug-ins.. plus, I can’t find all the plug-ins I need.

So can you guys/girls maybe suggest plug-ins or hacks you have used for anything similar to these features? Is this even plausible?

I need help with this! Thank you!

    God Bless,
    Jennie

  • Sounds like you want a PHP groupware system, not a blog. The blog could be a part of the site, but sounds like the groupware is the core, not the blog.

I know but she wants to use WordPress.. so basically, I have to pile it down with plugins..

I agree with “davidchait”, you need a groupware product, not a blog. From personal experience, Group Office should suit your needs pretty well. You’ll be struggling to fullfill the above requirements with WP, unless you spend a significant amount of effort hacking it. And then the same again every time you upgrade. Although I haven’t played with it, XenIntranet looks primising too.

Agreed. You’ll have to explain to the client that it’s not cost efficient to use WP for that use.

Possibly look into SugarCRM – little different but it encompasses what you’re looking for as well.
