• I have been wanting to scrap my website for a while and a compelling reason just arose – I am starting a completely different and new business. My old website was beyond help and has sat there for years with no traffic. So last night I bought a new domain and decided to change my whole WordPress site to that domain. But I totally forgot that I should do that from my hosting site, not initially in WordPress.

As soon as I did this none of my backend WordPress pages would load any longer. I have now tried to fix things with my hosting site, but nothing is working with that either. If I can’t rectify this easily, I need to at least stop paying for WordPress and all my plugins but I can’t access any of that right now either. Can anyone help?

  • What do you mean by paying for WordPress? That only applies if you use the wordpress.COM service. But you are here in the forum of www.ads-software.com. The difference is explained here, for example:

    What’s the difference between www.ads-software.com and WordPress.com?

Since you are asking the question here, I am assuming an individual installation. In this case, you have probably created a new domain for your website in your WordPress, but the domain does not yet exist. Therefore, your website is currently no longer accessible.

To solve this, you would have to make one of the changes described here via your hosting area: https://developer.www.ads-software.com/advanced-administration/upgrade/migrating/#changing-the-site-url – either via wp-config.php or change the entries in the database.

If you need help with this, please contact your host’s support team.

Ok, yes, I forgot I am not paying for WordPress(.org), just for some of the plugins. Since I can’t open www.ads-software.com, I see I need to perform this fix in my hosting site, but I am not sure where. I see a place to “manually add an existing WordPress Application” where it shows my domain and prompts me to insert an installation path after / is that the correct place? Thanks in advance.

Please contact your hoster’s support team with these questions. We here know neither the interface you have in front of you nor the possibilities it offers you.
