I agree on your point. It’s been submitted as a core Trac ticket (https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/28983) & GitHub PR (https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/pull/1082), but has unfortunately not been given much attention beyond being marked for an unspecified future release and being stated as having a patch (some people have chipped in here & there for testing, feedback, etc. but now it’s in a stage where it’s more-or-less ready for official adoption with it not having any known issues and/or unaddressed feedback at this point in time.)
