I cannot get the new Sociable plugin to show on my site. I previously had the Sociable Pro version (what a waste of money that was for a whole year). DO NOT buy the pro version of this plugin, you will get NO SUPPORT and no updates.

The icons will show at the end of a post, but I want the skyscraper bar that floats along the left side of my blog like Digg Digg.

How do I make this work?

I’d try another plugin. It’s clear that the developers of this plugin do not care when users have problems as you can tell by the only responses posted by them months ago.

@shan: If you want to be useful, figure out why it isn’t working and post some feedback… maybe even make your own plugin if you are capable of doing so. Don’t poison a community that puts a lot of time and effort into making FREE plug-ins by being disrespectful.

@yeustudent The Sociable developers were disrespectful to me when I originally asked for help. All they did was post their sales blurb/pitch about the plugin and not once offered to help anyone with their issues.

I am not poisoning a community, thank you very much. I have been asking for help since I started having issues. I have gotten none. What I have posted are the facts: the Sociable developers are not helping any users solve the problems with their plugin.

This forum is supposed to be a place people can receive help for wordpress related issues. And usually, that’s what myself and many other get after posting here. However, the Sociable developers have abandoned the users. The plugin is broken and they don’t seem to much care. If they did, they would have helped fix the problems, don’t you think?

If I knew how to fix the issues, I would have done it by now. I gave up and started using another plugin because of Sociable’s complete lack of help.

If it is true, I went to options skyscraper, and gave him reset, and appeared the brazen. Thank you men!

I have been using Classic successfully for a long time. I decided to try out Skyscraper and it didn’t show up at first. When I read that other people got it to work using the reset button, I hit the reset button at the bottom of both the Classic and Skyscraper pages. All of sudden it appeared on the Skyscraper options page. I’m not sure if I needed to hit both reset buttons, but that’s what worked for me.

First, I have nothing against the Sociable guys. But the fact is, Shan asked for help 4 months ago (at the time of this comment). One of the Sociable guys left a couple of comments but all of them were debating whether the Pro version of their plugin was created by them. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. I don’t really care. But the fact remains that only one post attempted to further discussion on why Skyscraper wasn’t working. To the present, no solutions have been offered by Sociable.

Again, let me state that I have no ax to grind. I don’t care about the Pro version and I like the classic Sociable plug in. But facts are facts, and Shan appears to be correct about customer support from Sociable.

Next, I tried the reset method that somebody other than the Sociable guys suggested. No combination of resetting anything worked for me.

Next, A quick scan of the Internet showed other discussions about Skyscraper not working and no solutions being presented.

Next, it’s been 4 months since this discussion started and the issue remains. Why the Sociable guys would allow such an issue to continue without pushing out multiple updates and at the very least commenting that they don’t know what’s breaking their plugin but they’re working day and night to fix it (even if they’re only working 9-5) is beyond me.

Seriously, guys, it ain’t right. At least make it look like you’re TRYING to do something about it.

Again, I’m just presenting a point of view. I WANT to like Skyscraper because it seems like a nifty plugin with a few more options than Digg Digg, especially the ability to have it show up on the homepage, which Digg Digg removed from their plugin.

    Hope there’s a solution soon.

@mentis THANK YOU. It’s nice to see someone actually reading the entire thread and noticing the complete lack of support we’ve all gotten. I have no clue what got into @yeustudent’s Post-Toasties that day, but it clearly put him in a bad mood. LOL

I wish the WP admins would just remove Sociable from the repository considering all the trouble so many are having.

@shan, we’re in the same boat. I think Skyscraper seems like a groovy plugin and it would allow me to ditch Digg Digg. I haven’t liked Digg Digg ever since THEY decided that all of their users would prefer to NOT have the floating display on their homepage because it takes away from the blog experience or some crap like that.

I came to this thread while searching to find out why my Skyscraper wasn’t showing up. I’m like you…I have simple expectations. If you’re going to put out a plugin, it’s ALSO your responsibility to help people figure out why it’s not working on their blog.

The Sociable plugin has always been a great one that serves the purpose very well. I’ve always had those guys on my “good” list. And while they’re probably a good bunch of people (or maybe it’s just one person…I don’t know), they are seriously dropping the ball on this one. But just in case they’re unsure about it…it’s called “Customer Service” and it might be a good idea for them to learn how it works and then try it out. ??

I’m not angry, just disappointed. Not only in Sociable (and the Skyscraper plugin), but in any person or company who released an app, product, or plugin and then doesn’t do an excellent job of supporting it.

I hope a solution will be forthcoming. I’m still willing to try the plugin, but I guess now I’ll be a bit cautious before jumping into any new wiz-bang plugin they come out with.

Best of luck, Shan (and everyone).

    Cheers,
    Scott (aka Mentis)
