    It was working: inserting a link of a page ‘not existent’ in Facebook, the image set as default for this case, was showing regularly.
    Now, after some upgrade of version (I use 14.0.4) this is not the standard; I see one image, and I have the choice to change it with images I’m not interested in, but not the image I set specifically for the case when the link was pointing to a page without images, or a page that doesn’t exist.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    @jumborex could you please try to update to v14.1 of Yoast SEO for WordPress and see if this issue still occurs?

    Just to clarify, the issue is when you try to share a post or page on Facebook that doesn’t have any images in the content (and if you haven’t set any open graph images or a featured image), it should default to the image you’ve set under your WP admin dashboard > SEO (sidebar) > Social > Facebook tab > Default settings image URL, but it doesn’t, is this correct?

    @solkyoshiro

    could you please open a new thread or topic discussion? It might require further investigation with different set-ups and websites. thank you.

    Yes: your summary is correct.
    I installed version 14.1, but apparently it’s not working as well.
    But now ‘no image’ appears in the Facebook post.
    I checked the image chosen for this situation:
    https://www.altrimondi.org/sf/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/206699538.jpg
    It exists, and should be working!

    Who, should open another thread?
    Me, or @solkyoshiro?

    @jumborex

    We tested a sample post (that had no images in the post content, no featured image, no image set for Facebook or Twitter) and it reverted to the default image set under WP admin dashboard > SEO (sidebar) > Social > Facebook tab > Default settings image URL, so we are unable to replicate this issue with v14.1 of Yoast SEO for WordPress. Could you try setting a different default image and see if it reverts back to that when you try to share your post?

    We would recommend that @solkyoshiro open a new thread. Even if it’s a similar issue, the set-ups would be different, and so that the replies and investigation won’t get mixed up.

    Ok: I have new information for you.
    I made some tryal, and now I try to explain…
    If I quote a page that doesn’t exist in the site, I get the requested image:
    Non existent Page
    If I use a link, that exists, but in this moment is only scheduled (In my opinion it should be the same as a non existent page!) I get a different preview:
    Page that should not be visible now
    In fact, if I use the link in the site, in this very moment I get this:
    Page not yet visible
    Waiting some support.
    Thank you.

    When you share a page that doesn’t exist on your site as you scheduled the page for a particular time, you won’t see an image, nor the default one but you’ll see a “page not found” on Facebook. We can confirm that we are seeing the “page not found” instead of an image when sharing https://www.altrimondi.org/try.php as this page no longer exists.

    On the other hand, if you visit the https://www.altrimondi.org/try.php page, your site shows a 404 error page with an image and this is expected.

    Note: You can only see an image for a page that exists on your site.

    Hi @jumborex,

    The meta tags and schema data is identical for both pages, so this doesn’t seem to be a Yoast SEO issue.

    We don’t expect to see an image for a 404 page, but Facebook may treat the page differently because you used a PHP file as the non-existant page.

    If you test using /notfound/ instead of /try.php as the non-existant URL, you should see the same result as the scheduled page.

    Hope this helps!

    In thsi case it shpould only be a Facebook glitch! But you understand that I cannot ask to Gacebook, mekinh Yoast SEO working well.
    If, the referenec to a page that doesn’t exist (yet) id not like a page non ecistent, I have undeerstood nothing.

    OK: I do not think that I can describe this problem to Facebook. And I suppose that Facebook is not interested if a function inside Yoast SEO is not working as expected, possibly because Facebook doesn’t takes into account a request from Yast SEO.
    If your team is not capable to operate a correction, I think I will live without this working as expected.
    But again: in mu humble opinion, this is not Facebook fault!

    @jumborex

    Can you let us know what version you had before you updated? We ask as we would be happy to see if Yoast was outputting any tags that Facebook might use to show an image on those non-existing pages.

    Yes, it was working perfectly a couple of versions ago: I said it was not working with the version previous the v14.1. When I installed the recent 14.1, nothing changed.
    So it was working with the version 14.0 and something: I don’t remember exactly.

    Hi,

    We installed v14.0 of Yoast on our site. We then went to a non existing page. We can confirm that Yoast does not output image tags for use by Facebook.

    We are not sure why Facebook was showing an image before we can only surmise that it was related to caching. Facebook does cache links and can show content on them in Facebook even after the page has been removed.

    Ok! And this means that…?
    Is working or not working using Yoast v14.0?

    Tha caching from Facebook is a big trouble, evr!

    @jumborex This would confirm that the plugin was outputting these tags neither for version 14.0 or version 14.1 for a non-existent page. If you were seeing an image for the page it was likely related to caching.
