• I’m trying to get my social media icons in the nav bar. Right now I have some in my right sidebar using the text widget. I know how to create the links with the word, twitter, for example by creating a menu. But I can’t figure out how to replace the word “twitter” with an icon. Also I would like them to be aligned to the right side of the nav bar. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks. I just thought I’d start another thread, cause I felt annoying to you!

Actually, that creates more confusion here – and no, you’re not being annoying – that’s why we’re here :).

Just take out the CSS you added. I actually don’t think CSS is the best way to add those icons to the nav bar – and if you make a child theme, we can get them coded into the header.php file – which will likely be a better approach.

Thanks. I swear I did just take it out, and now it’s just all messed up. The alignment and in the top left there is text that says “skip to navigation”. I don’t know what to do.

OMG i fixed it. I can’t believe it. Now I’ll get back to figuring out this child theme before I worry about the top navigation bar. So Im sorry but how do i get to this folder? Im in my dashboard, and can’t figure it out (im so sorry)

You can’t do it from the Dashboard – you need to use FTP – here’s good info on DreamHost’s:

Hi there, so Im running my ftp through dreamhost, but I can’t add a folder. I can’t edit anything that is there in order to make my child theme. Am I missing something?

do I have to download filezilla?

    Hi Hilary,

You should create your own folder in your computer then upload it to server by filezilla or cyberduck.

Ok Im not sure I understand. I am in filezilla now and trying to copy and paste the style.css in textedit. But it won’t save in any other version other than .rtf. What should I do? I’m trying to create a child theme

Create the new file and the new folder on your local computer – then just upload that folder (containing the file) to your site using an FTP client like FileZilla, yes.

I don’t get it. I am now in filezilla, and I created wp-content/themes/liquorice-child. And now Im trying to copy the liquorice parent theme style.css into a new textedit doc, but it won’t let me save it as anything except an .rtf.

Sorry I figured it out. I created a new file in the liquorice-child folder. and copy and pasted all of the parent themes style.css. But now in my “manage themes” it’s saying that the template is missing.
