Does the Editor theme support Social Media Widgets like Twitter and icon-links to Facebook and LinkedIn?

  • It doesn’t look like there’s native support, but you could try a plugin for that.

    Hi there,

We don’t have any built-in social media links, but you could easily add them via a plugin as Stephen suggests.

@arrayhq can you make it possible to add social media and other widgets below the menu on the homepage?

    Hi there,

Unfortunately the widget area is located in a different tab. You’d have to move the sidebar code into the first tab to get those social media widgets below the menu.

    Hi,
    Love the theme. Ty.

I’m trying to add social media widgets, & possibly 1-2 links, onto the sidebar (like @ahq above). Alternatively, is is possible to label what looks like a folder on the upper left, so that an ordinary reader would know to look there for more stuff (e.g. social media icons and links to other work?) Thank you, ES

I tried some of the floating links, but it ruined the simplicity of the look. Is there a plan to add icons (or widget-space) to the main sidebar?

    Hi there,

Glad you’re liking Editor! Unfortunately, I don’t think we’re going to bring widgets to the main sidebar. You could, however, create a quick social menu by just using the Links in Appearance -> Menu. You could setup something like this, which would look like this in your menu. It’s a quick way to get those social links to the main sidebar without modifying the theme.

    Hi “Array,”
That looks pretty good (nice, really), but I fear it would steer viewers away from my content (such as what will be info on my book, other stuff…)

Maybe I can set up a social page, and have floating icons on that one alone. Is there a way to gridify one page, that I could fill it with widgets, such as to my old blog, and the kinds of things I’d put in the sidebar?

    Thanks,

    Hi Elaine,

Your best bet would probably be to find a plugin that lets you add social icons to a specific part of the page. For example, I found this one that lets you add these cool tabs to the right side of the screen. When you hover on the tab, it slides out the social link. It’s a nice and subtle effect and fits the style of Editor rather well.

That’s just one example, but there are many solutions out there. This search will also return some results that may help.

    Hi Array,
Thank you. I like the WP fixed icons look. Everything with the installation was easy, except that I couldn’t see the icons (after clearing cache, etc.)

When I realized it had a default setting of -250 px margin, I changed that to a positive number (250px). THen they appeared, but too low down. I tried moving them up (e.g. margin 125 px), but they’re stuck. It’s probably an issue with my browser, or the plugin. When I have time, I will work on it again.
    Thanks!
    ES

p.s. I changed it back to -250 default – doesn’t seem to make a difference in Chrome, and the icons look OK on my i-phone.
