Social network wordpress?

Hi I would like to create a community within my wordpress site to give users more areas of communication. I know buddypress is still not compatible with wordpress for integration so I am looking to you guys for recommendations. I really am trying to avoid the boards/forum route as it’s not as attractive as it once was.
