• Are the social sharing icons in the header (beside the search bar) a premium only feature? I have tested two WordPress installations with the free Make theme and they are only showing up in the footer.

  • Hello!

The options in Make & Make don’t include social sharing icons in the main menu/site-header. To add these, you’d need to alter your theme files. There might be a plugin that could do this for you—I can’t think of any, but it’s worth a search!

    Good luck!

According to https://thethemefoundry.com/docs/make-docs/tutorials/set-social-profile-links-using-custom-menu/ it can be done. But when I follow the directions they do not show up there, only in the footer.

The social profile links will only work up in the social profile links location which is in header bar (and footer) — not the primary navigation.

I am not trying to place these in the primary navigation. I really just want the same thing that is shown in the tutorial. Which is at the top, next to the search bar. On the two sites I have tested this on, nothing appears at the top, only the footer. Yes I am using the social profile links in the customize tab.

OH! Ok, I thought you were trying to add them to the Primary Navigation menu. ?? If you’ve already created your menu (per the tutorial you’ve linked):

In your customizer, you’ll want to go to Layout → Header and make sure the box is checked to show social icons in your header.

Next check in the customizer on this one in General → Social Links. Toward the bottom is where you select your social links menu to add to the header bar.

Let me know if that doesn’t work for you!

!!!! Melissa you rock! Yep that worked. Thank you very much for your help.

Perfect! Glad we finally worked it out. ??

When you’re finished with your site, I hope you’ll share it with us!

There is actually a mix of bugginess and interface infelicity in this area: https://github.com/thethemefoundry/make/issues/271
