social tags not properly displayed

There is an issue where the share box doesn’t grab the correct tags from the post. For instance, my og:title and og:description is clearly defined, but the Facebook share contents do not reflect this and instead use a stripped version of the title for both (no symbols).

Here’s what the code on my page looks like:

<meta property="og:description" content="Canadians see themselves as a sea-faring nation and have positive views about shipping and its contribution to the country." />

And the Facebook share box displays:
