I had my login IP whitelisted by wordfence, however my IP changed a few days ago and I can’t login to WP now.

So no access to the dashboard but I have access to the MySQL db (in case that helps).

Is there a way to change that whitelisted IP? Or any other way to get access to WP?

Ok, while I typed my problem I thought, just try a rename the /wordfence/ folder – works perfectly! Once logged in I named it back to original and changed the outdated IP.

  • Hey @yellofish,

Thanks for the update, and happy to hear you were able to sort this out.

Renaming the Wordfence plugin directory is definitely the quickest way back into the site if you find yourself locked out.

Please let us know if anything else comes up.

    Thanks,

Renaming the Wordfence plugin directory means of course no WF protection, I think I kept that to below 60 Seconds.

This said, I wonder if this brute force method is the proper way, or alternately, what you suggest.

    Hey @yellofish,

Unfortunately, renaming the directory does open the site for attacks, but only for a short time and is the best way to get back into the site to make the adjustments.

Brute Force is a very powerful feature and I highly suggest using it. The IP changed before there was a chance to update it in Wordfence, and these things happen. I’ve done it myself more than once :).

    Thanks,

    Gerroald
