Some advice on upgrading

  • I have been working on a Web site that uses wordpress 2.6, and I now need to install it on a different server.

    Do I just copy all the files from server A to server B and then import the database using phpmyadmin?

    Is it really that simple?

    Oh, i would need to change the config file too, am i missing anything??

  • My advise would be: export the data of the existing site using the WP function. Then set up a new WP on the new server, but not 2.6, but the latest version (2.7) and then just import the data. Of course you’ll have to upload the theme that you used, plugins, etc. and think about possible modifications that you made, but basically, it’s that simple indeed.
