    Victoria — I’m not very good at designing templates of my own,but my suggestion to you is to start with a very, very basic template the meets most of your needs and then to hack it beyond ALL recognition so that it meets *all* your needs.

    For example, if you must absolutely have three columns, then pick a very basic three-column template and then change the colors, widths and header as you please until it looks how you want it. Not sure what you level of knowledge with design is, but most of this stuff can be changed in just one file: style.css (colors, widths for all elements and headers, etc.)

    There is great list of templates on the codex that goes into pretty good detail about what each template is like and what features it contains. Good luck!
