Some images use thumbnails, others use larger versions

Interesting. I am not really sure what is causing this, have you tried adjusting the ‘size’ setting within the widget? What do you currently have this set to?

Your image URLs do look a little different to me. They are being served from: akamaihd.net rather than cdninstagram.com, do you use a custom CDN on your site?

The size in the widget is set to Thumbnail, but choosing Small and Large fetches the same size. I get a different image only when selecting Original, then I get an even bigger image. Does this setting has any relation to WordPress image sizes?

Also, we’re not using any custom CDN, it seems “igcdn-photos-c-a.akamai…” is just another CDN Instagram uses.

Is there any other way I can help you find the issue?

Ok this makes some sense. The differing CDN URls are the problem.

There is code in the plugin (https://github.com/scottsweb/wp-instagram-widget/blob/master/wp-instagram-widget.php#L197) that is looking for image sizes in the CDN URL. It looks like those sizes are missing on the CDN being used by your site.

I am not sure it is an easy fix either. Looking at the URLS:

I cannot see an easy way to perform the resize. c178.0.393.393 seems to relate to a crop not a size.

Adding the “/s160x160” to the akamai URL works and gives a thumbnail image:
