Hi. I copied my site locally to work on a major change in peace [and offline]. Of course, I downloaded all of the plugins that I’m using on the live version.

Unfortunately, many of the Jetpack goodies aren’t working locally, and it’s affecting the features of my site. In fact, they’re greyed out. Specifically, only 9 are working out of the bunch. Subscriptions is important; it’s at the top of every page. Likes, Publicize, and more – greyed out!

A link won’t work, as I’ve already tried to use your Debug feature. Won’t do it on a local ‘server.’ If you go to my site, it’s fine: https://newdispweb.com. And, regarding plugin compatibility, I disabled one ‘simple’ plugin, and BuddyPress isn’t active yet. Can you fix this, please? Thanks in advance… JSB

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

That’s indeed the expected behaviour. Most Jetpack modules require a connection to a WordPress.com to work. When you work in a local environment your site is not publicly accessible and cannot consequently connect with WordPress.com.

In such cases, you can use Jetpack’s development mode to work with all the modules that do not require a connection to WordPress.com. If your site address is localhost, this dev mode is automatically enabled for you.

Thanks for your response, Jeremy. However, ‘developer’ is a title that I’m relearning right now, so it’ll be interesting! Seeing that I start school next week [because experience no longer counts as a substitute for a degree in CompSci], it will help me test out of some courses in the future, so I can deal with it. This will be another free-time endeavor for my website’s transition…

    Thanks again!
