I have WooCommerce and Angell Eye’s PayPal IPN plugins installed. All orders are processed via PayPal (there is always an IPN record for all orders) but not all orders are recorded in the Woocommerce orders file. I notice that when an order is not recorded then additionally the IPN data always includes a reference to ‘btn_id’. I am puzzled by this. (Recorded orders do not have this btn_id reference in the IPN data). Any insight much appreciated.

@johnelk I’m not sure I fully understand what you are saying here. It sounds like you have more payments hitting your PayPal account besides just WooCommerce payments.

If you have our IPN URL configured in your PayPal account profile, then any transaction that hits your PayPal account will trigger an IPN there (unless the transaction made use of the notify URL parameter to override your profile setting.)

So if you’re finding additional orders in there that aren’t showing up in Woo, that sounds like those simply are not Woo orders, and they are IPNs that were triggered from payments through another source.

Does that sound right, or am I misunderstanding?

You are absolutely right – and mystery solved. On further investigation I found an out-of-date link on another website which pointed to a previous incarnation of our shop page, and this page had been set up before WooCommerce was installed.
It was enormously helpful to have Angel Eyes’ IPN records to hand for sorting out this problem – so thanks for that and also for your interest.

Happy to help! If you have a moment to leave a review for the plugin that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
