    Hi All,

To the best of our knowledge, we DON’T have a WordPress site associated with our (Laravel) website [ redundant link removed ].

And yet we frequently received these “Some plugins were automatically updated” messages for this domain.

Here’s the message we’re receiving, with full headers:

    —————————————————–

Howdy! Some plugins have automatically updated to their latest versions on your site at. No further action is needed on your part.

These plugins are now up to date:
    - Elementor (from version 3.7.8 to 3.8.0)

I thought maybe we have a www.ads-software.com account called [ emails deleted ], and this could be the source of these messages. But I’ve tried to recover password on both of these email addresses, but in both cases the accounts don’t exist.

I can just auto-delete/archive these messages…. but it would be really good to get to the bottom of who/what is sending them!

    Thanks!

  • I thought maybe we have a www.ads-software.com account called [email protected] or [email protected], and this could be the source of these messages. But I’ve tried to recover password on both of these email addresses, but in both cases the accounts don’t exist.

www.ads-software.com does not track the versions of plugins installed on the millions of WordPress sites and doesn’t send any such emails.

These update notifications are sent by the WordPress software, but from the individual site’s server (or external mailer, if one is configured for the specific site).

Looking at the headers you provided, it seems the message was sent by the server with IP address 72.167.234.245 and hostname p3nlsmtp20.shr.prod.phx3.secureserver.net.

Both the IP address and hostname belong to GoDaddy.

Additionally, I see the following message ID in the header:

    [email protected]

The domain name myftpupload.com also belongs to GoDaddy, and I’ve seen this domain many times on sites using GoDaddy’s managed WordPress hosting service.

Given that your domain name is registered with GoDaddy, I’ll recommend you audit your GoDaddy account to see if you have some old WordPress installation there.
