Some posts randomly reset to 0 stars

Do you use the gutenberg editor?

Yes, I use Gutenberg.

Just to be clear, when I say that the overall rating resets to 0 I mean on the front end only. In the post editor the score shows correctly but on the actual post it shows 5 grey stars.

It happens across different devices and browsers so it’s not a browser cache issue.

Yeah same thing is happening with me also. It looks like after a certain time some of the votes just go to zero, and it is frustrating. Some however are correct. It looks like you have a bug going on!! I tested this on a proxy, on another computer i have never used and on a cell phone. I was going to upgrade to pro, but honestly if it is working like this, it is pointless to use. I have cleared my hosting cache as well!

@hightechbranding thanks for the info. I was sure there must be some other people affected by the same bug.

I keep coming across these “reset” ratings regularly. It’s incredibly frustrating as I have well over 100 reviews and I don’t have the time to keep checking them all.

I also noticed that if I go to edit one of these posts with broken rating, when I click on the stars to update the score I get the “loading, please wait” message and animation and it just spins indefinitely. I need to click on the stars 2 or 3 times before it loads the new score.

Yeah it seems random, what is strange they will be there for awhile, and then be gone. I thought i was losing my mind, but i have double checked all the ones that have stars, and some are gone. This exact same thing happened to me before with woocommerce also. Had ratings and one day they were gone. I have gone as far as removing wordfence and i replaced that with another plugin, just to see if wordfence could possibly be the culprit.

No I have it deactivated, There is only a few things i think it could be. Either wordfence blocked the request when voting or it has to do with voting from the backend. I removed wordfence and replaced it, it is bad about blocking things, i have discovered that it even blocks sometimes while editing with BB, it will reject it. So i just went ahead an dumped it. So far so good, i am thinking this may be wordfence, but it will take time to tell. As of right now i dont see any new missing votes.

This just happened again for me- happened a few weeks back as well and I dont use Wordfence. As stated, on my site the stars are Grey and at Zero, and when I go to edit, the Rating is still indeed there, but I have to click again for it to register a 4.5 or 3 star vote etc., then Publish it again.

I’ve changed a lot of stuff in how overall_rating date is stored in the db.
