If our non-admin users try scrolling down to see more stories in the list or if they try going to drafts/published sections, they get an ”unable to load” error.

This started out of a sudden. No new plugins were installed or updates made, so I believe that Web Stories plugin is acting weird.

Seems to be similar to this: https://github.com/GoogleForCreators/web-stories-wp/issues/2950 But we do not use the plugin mentioned there and haven’t made any recent changes.

I’ve also just sent you our Site Health information.

    Thank you.

@adamdunnage Hi Adam, our hosting is currently investigating this. It may take them some time.

[ Please do not bump. ]

@openthebible I have been unable to reproduce this on our side so no updates here. Have you heard back from your hosting provider on the 414 console error?

@adamdunnage Still waiting. They told me that it may take some time.

@openthebible Thanks for the update. I will await your reply on this.

@adamdunnage They got back to me. Our server’s technical team told me that they couldn’t find wrong on our side and they see that this could be your plugin’s issue.

Thanks a lot for your update.

Unfortunately, at this point this very much sounds like we’re hitting a dead end, similar to your other issue with the fonts.

It seems like an issue very specific to your custom site setup. After all, the issue does not occur on a new site with custom roles set up.

If this happens to you on a fresh WordPress installation with clear steps to reproduce, we’re happy to take another look, but otherwise we’ve really run out of options from our side.

@swissspidy Your plugin is full of bugs, our friends who own other websites confirmed that. Since I started using your plugin I have seen various other bugs in your plugin that have been fixed. I have never seen this many bugs in one plugin in such a short amount of time before.

You can have a look at our set up/files to see what environment is causing it. But it is definitely something that you have to fix. We have very few and up to date plugins and your plugin is the only one that is acting weird. Just because your plugin works for some random default theme, it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be fixing more complex issues. No one is using empty themes in practice. It is only for testing purposes.

We have even tried using a different plugin for roles, but it still didn’t work.

Our hosting’s tech team said that this is the plugin’s issue, not ours!

Your plugin is full of bugs

Then feel free to stop using this free plugin.

Our hosting’s tech team said that this is the plugin’s issue, not ours!

That’s meaningless. Either you are meeting the requirements for this plugin or not. How far did you get on this part?

Hi, they said they tried it with a fresh installation and it worked for them, but that says nothing to me since our environment is not a ”fresh installation”. They found an error code that showed why one of those errors was happening. I’ve sent this information to our hosting’s tech team and they said that neither this nor anything else is causing any problems and they see that it must be the plugin’s issue.

Not really sure what to do now. Even tried creating a custom admin role for our story creator – it did not help either.

To publish Google web stories, you need to use a plugin. So need to get rid of these errors somehow. Let me remind you that the last one appeared recently and it was not happening before (nothing has changed on our side so it has nothing to do with us).
Also, we have never experienced such random things with any other plugins.

    Thank you.

No, this is unrelated and also already solved a long time ago.

We would love to help you get to the bottom pf this, but it‘s difficult to do that if we can‘t reproduce the issue ourselves, I hope you understand that.

That said, just the other day a user was able to fix a similar issue with the following steps: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/web-stories-plugin-does-not-appear-in-the-sidebar-menu-wordpress/#post-16130543

    Please try these too.

@swissspidy Interesting, do you think I should change it to zero in those settings?

    Plugin Author Pascal Birchler

    (@swissspidy)

Yes. But even setting it to 3.0.0 should already work. But I recommend trying that on a staging site first if you have one, as it’s not really a method we otherwise support or recommend. But it might help in your case.

@swissspidy I really hoped this would work, but nothing has changed… ??
