• Hello guys,

I use counterize plugin for my blog.

Normally i get 20-30 visitors each day. However, there is a guy that continously refreshing my page since yesterday. He hit my page about 12000 times.

Why he can be doing this?

    Is this harmful for me?

    How can I block him?

  • Hi knowdict,

For that amount its probably some guy trying to find vulnerabilities in your site trying to get into the backend of your site. I would recommend installing a security plugin that can log failed log in attempts or 404 errors (I always use All in One WP Security and Firewall). You can then get hold of his ip, if its one guy, and block him through the plugin.

Maybe someone else can give you a better answer but that is what I would do.

If you have the IP of this one guy and a FTP-access to your server and especially the directory that is the “mother” of your wordpress directory (e.g. /myUser/ and wordpress is located in /myUser/wordpress), you can add a .htaccess to /myUser/ and block the IP. Make a google search with terms such as “block IP through htaccess”, this should return a more detailed tutorial on how to proceed at this point. Note, however, that the attacker can change his IP anytime. A good WP Security Plugin probably is the better way, however the .htaccess is closer to the server and it’s operating system.
