I’ve installed the profile, adding an API key and author code but the list of books showing seems to be someone else’s. I’ve removed and re-added, added the plugin more than once and can repro 100%.

    Plugin version is 1.4.1

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

Sorry for your troubles. In order for me to investigate, please provide me with the link to your Goodreads shelf (the one you want to display) as well as the values you have used for the two GR Progress plugin/widget settings “Goodreads user ID” and “name of shelf”. Please also provide me with a link to your blog where I can see the error.

    Hi there, thanks for helping!

The website is not live but you can hit it in test at https://51.141.36.78, your widget is in the sidebar showing a list of books that are not the correct ones.

The Goodreads shelf in question is at https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/23413932-w-j-lennox?shelf=currently-reading

In the Widget config, the Goodreads profile url for the owner of that shelf is: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7242227.W_J_Lennox and the name of shelf is ‘currently-reading’.

The GR profile url is a little strange, but when we queried this with GR they said that this is what they do with a profile that has initials in it (i.e. “W.J.”). Using a profile URL of https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7242227 gives the same page on GR but unfortunately if I use this in the Widget config it is still showing the wrong shelf.

Hope this helps, will keep an eye out for future replies so that I can respond more quickly next time…

    Thanks!

I won’t be able to test this for a few days yet, but what if you use only 7242227 in the GR profile URL configuration field?

Same result I’m afraid. Appreciate your help, no massive hurry, I’m sure you have a day job!!

Yep, I’m coding for my day job, and coding in my free time also… ??

I found the error. The widget needs a Goodreads USER ID to work, but you supplied a Goodreads AUTHOR ID. I had no idea there was a distinction between them. In short, you need to find and enter your user ID, not your author ID.

I have released an update to the widget where one of the changes is the addition of help text to the “user ID” field in the widget configuration. Please see if you can get it working by following the instructions there, and let me know if anything is unclear.

    Hi,

I’m also a dev, so know all about coding at work and then at home too!!

Yes, following your instructions, I was able to find the user ID and copy that into the config property. The widget immediately refreshed and showed the correct shelf!

Thanks very much for helping out, lovely clean widget!
