• My site’s server was down and a visitor while trying to visit the site saw the message about the down server.

I don’t know what they did after that but they were asked to register and the next thing I know is that they became the administrator of my site and I was locked out.

The visitor (a non-techie) said they don’t know what they did either — he only knew he “registered” with a fake email which is now the administrator email of my site.

I contacted my host, they were able to grant me access to wp-admin login again but now my site is totally formatted. All posts, pages, theme, gone. Only plugins remain and they are deactivated.

I have no backups and don’t even know what exactly went wrong. How can an outsider so easily become the administrator of my site?

How can I get my site back?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Im not affiliated with the plugin, but if you have access to Cpanel you might be able to retrieve your previous settings if your host has that by default. You do not need to do up backups, but your host has to have that by default. If you need help let me know.

Second of, you need to secure your site, you should use SSL otherwise your site will be easily hacked. You are lucky that the guy who did the damage was honest and did not have a malicious intent.

    Thank you @hamadata

I’ve contacted them but unfortunately, the data they have on their backup is the data after the breach. They’ve erased previous data.

I’ll have to start afresh. Just learnt I can find some of my posts and pages through Google Cache and Archives.org
